Yet again another buzzword Saas, meaning Software as a Service. This can take on many flavors such as a Hosted database which users connection with a client copy from there desktop or PDA, such as FileMaker 4 through 10 to a remote FileMaker Server hosted out in the Terra Software Internet Cloud. Saas can also be a purely Browser or Java based application where none of the actual application or data is held at a local machine. The entire SaaS is stored and managed from a single or multiple sites (Cloud) which in many cases can reduce long term costs and provide many productivity advantages.
Some well know examples of Saas are, Google Apps, QuickBooks online, Internet Banking, FaceBook Apps and many more.
Now in many cases companies are already using or running Saas applications but are not optimizing it, or have not taken key factors into consideration. Key factors such as BCP (Business Continuity Plan), DRP (Disaster Recovery Plan) and of course security which is always a critical element.
Saas and Cloud computing can and is a great way to expand your capabilites and with controlled costs. Though Saas and Cloud are not always the best choice, it is worth analyzing and making the right decision. Feel free to contact us to schedule sometime to review your needs.
